FM99 Awards Backyard Makeover to Local Veteran

FM99 teamed up with Mike’s Hard Lemonade and the non-profit Boots on the Ground to gift one local veteran a compete backyard makeover! During the month of July, FM99 listeners nominated local active duty or retired military service members or families of fallen heroes that could use a complete backyard makeover. A panel read and reviewed each submission, and ultimately selected Purple Heart Veteran Sgt. Derek Coble of Suffolk as the recipient!

Purple Heart Veteran Sgt. Derek Coble served in the U.S. Army and was hit with an IED while serving in Afghanistan. 4 months after returning, he was told he was terminally ill at the age of 22 with a grade 2 glioma astrocytoma, an inoperable brain tumor. Derek underwent emergency surgery last May and is still fighting and undergoing proton therapy daily. Derek is married with 2 young children.

Many local businesses are donating their time and materials to makeover Derek’s backyard. The project has begun! We will add photos of it as soon as it’s complete.
